Phoenix Ends League with a Bang

Phoenix 3 - 0 Frontliners 300

What a match this would have been if only Frontliners 300 beaten Firebrands in their previous match. If so, this would then be the division 2 first place decider. 300 who will be fighting for silver medal while Phoenix only pride because they were already champions.

Phoenix without coach Termin and Jo Wyee due to national training camp in KL was taken charge by Oliver and Daniel Cheah. The match started with shots coming from all ends from both teams. After the first period, suprisingly, no goals were scored from both teams.

In the second period, Phoenix went all out wanting to score some goals. Their effort finally was rewarded after a confusion between the players. #9 Adrian calmly hitted the ball into the goal. This was surely the goal that killed the mental strength of team 300. Moments later, #15 Samuel scored followed by #29 Teik Hong.

At the end, Phoenix manage to win the game by 3 goals to nothing. This resulted in Contact Bullets achieving silver medal.

Congrats to all Phoenix players for your play during this years league. Keep it up! Woooosssshhh!!

Amos Shines but Griffins tamed

Griffins 3 - 4 Contact Bullets

What a game!! Griffins playing their last match of this seasons Div 2 with nothing much to play for but pride. Griffins as usual put on a great fight against the Bullets but failed to score the equalizer.

The hero of the day was surely got to be the vice captain #69 Amos Lim who was ever so hardworking on the court! He manage to grab a hat-trick in the game. The third player to have done it in this league after Ian from Bullets and Drew from Falcons. At defence, Gim Hong was pretty solid. However, the team was really missing #18 Dominic's presence who did not feature in this match due to personal reasons.

#12 Gim Hong could have taken the lead for the team but failed to convert the penalty. Contact drew first blood but #69 Amos was quick to equalized from a free hit. He then scored the 2nd goal assisted by #73 Amelia. Contact hit 2 back just before the break.

3-2 at half time.

At the 2nd period, #69 Amos was quick to equalized with a solo effort from defends. However, Contact Bullets manage to score the winner which Griffins failed to hit back.

This league has been a great experience for the players as this was suppose to be an exposure team and surely they got all the exposure they needed. Great job boys and girls!! Wooooshhhh!!

The Dream Start They Wanted

Ztec Griffins 2 - 6 Dalat Falcons

The Griffins who had their captain #1 Leo Nard back in the team made an impressive start scoring twice against 2008 Division 2 Champions. Falcons attacked from all corners but was kept at bay many times by #1 Leo Nard. It was Griffins that drew first blood. #69 Amos comfortably put the ball pass a Falcon defender and hit it to the bottom right of the post. What a goal! Moments later, Griffins #23 Brandon took a free hit before the Falcons wall was perfectly formed. The ball, with top speed when straight to the left top corner. GOAL!! Shouted the players from the Griffins bench. The excitement can be seen among the players, coaches as well as spectators.

When the Griffins thought they will going to have this easily, Falcons hit back. 1 goal then another in a space of less than 2 minutes. Half time, the score was 2-2. A scoreline they players didnt expected.

In the second period, The Griffins went to deep defending mode staying mostly in their own half only to make one or two counter attacks. The speed, size and stamina of the Falcon players proved too much for the Griffins. Soon, the goals were flowing in. Some due to defensive errors, some just great movement by the Falcons.

The final score was 6-2. The Griffins will next play Contact Bullets on the 10th March 2009 at Dalat School. (7.45pm)
