High Flying Phoenix

Ztec Phoenix 7 - 2 Contact Bullets

Phoenix made it 4 wins out of 4 games after beating their latest opponent, Contact Bullets. The game started with Phoenix going all out playing a fast pace game to take advantage of their opponent. A few goalie errors and some unlucky defending prove too costly for the Bullets when they concede a total pf 7 goals, their most ever since this year's division 2 began.

Phoenix welcomed back coach Termin and Jo Wyee while coach Danial Cheah was watching from the stands this time round. The team also welcomed back #8 Siu Keong who marked his return with 2 goals together with the ever consistant #9 Adrian Koay. However, one of their goal each were recorded as an own goal as it has both hit a Bullet player before hitting the back of the net.

The others on the score sheet was #15 Samuel, who scored the 2nd goal of the team. #98 Danial netted one in just seconds after he was punished for a 2 minutes penalty for high stick. This wonder kid came out from the bench to find the ball rolling to him, controlled it towards the goal and a nice shot in between the keeper's legs. The other goal was from #11 Kelvin assisted by #47 Calvindev who had a terrific game this afternoon with many fancy footwork.

The best goal of this game was surely got to be from our own captain #9 Adrian. Took a drag shot slightly after half court which hit the goalie's helmet then the cross bar then the back of the goalie and into the net. There was nothing the goalie could do bout it. Teriffic shot!

Phoenix will next play Frontliners 300 on the 14th March, which what will most likely come out to be the title deciding game.

Ztec Griffins vs Frontliners 300

Griffins 1 - 2 Frontliners 300

Griffins lost their match 2-1 but bow out of this match with their heads held high. They went a goal down early before #12 Gim Hong equalised. The score remained 1-1 at the end of the first half.

Frontliners 300 manage to grab their second goal also from a power play advantage very early in the 2nd period.

Credit must be given to Griffin's center #69 Amos Lim for playing an outstanding match as a first time goalie in replacement of #1 Leo Nard who is away on holidays. He was also the captain for the night and he lead his team very well.

Who's Got The Bigger Bird??!! PHOENIX!!

Here it is, the long awaited clash of the division 2 titans. The most anticipated game since last years division 2 PFL. We ALL remember what happened in last years match against Dalat, the aggression, the tears, blood, and, sweat, the uproar, and not to mention the near violence the two teams almost had.

The tables have turned whereby Phoenix, with some extraordinary coaching from Ter Min and Jo Wyee, and also the great effort put in by the team, scored a total of 4 goals against Dalat Falcons. Although Dalat managed to bag a goal against our beloved Yung Ming, Phoenix managed to kill the game in the 2nd half.

The game started rather surprisingly, striking off the usual habit of Phoenix starting off slow. Due to amazing runs by the forwards, and hard defending by the defenders, the team managed to keep Dalat under pressure with their constant attacks. Then it happened! The 1st goal by Chern Harng sent the supporters wild with their cheering. Although the goal was a rather unusual goal, a goal is still a goal nonetheless. Great job Chern Harng!!

There was not a moment of silence or emptiness during the game. The excitement in the gymnasium was overwhelming with both teams gunning to out play and outrun the opponent. But did Phoenix give in?? NO THEY DID NOT!! Teik Hong with an amazing shot put the ball in the back of the net, scoring the second goal for the team, giving them a good enough lead against Dalat. Teik Hong being so ''humble'' did not know that it was a goal as the referrees did not blow the whistle loud enough. Then the decision was made, it was a GOAL!! The whole team ran on court groping and grabbing Teik Hong as he posed at the side of the court.

The game resumes...

Unfortunately, just before the brink of the half time whistle, Dalat managed to obtain one goal keeping the pressure on Phoenix and gaining some confidence and hope. But our guys were not gonna just sit around and mope, we are much better than that! At the half time break, the coaches got to work. Coach Ter Min and Jo-Wyee led the teams outside for a pep talk joined by fellow teammates and coaches Oliver and Daniel Cheah of Griffins. With corrections made, morale boosted and confidence increased, Phoenix walked back on court as the whistle blew. It was clear that they wanted the win. Adrian, Captain of the Phoenix, released a bone-shattering shot towards the Dalat goal, gaining a 2 point lead against Dalat.

Just as we thought it was over! We thought wrong! With the constant cheers of PUNJABI!!PUNJABI!! Calvindav answered the call and expectations of the supporters and slotted home the 4th and final goal of the game about 40 seconds after Adrians goal. Just then, the whistle for full time sounded. Supporters of Phoenix went CRAZY!! Phoenix made Ztec proud by regaining their honour of defeating their rival Dalat.

GO ZTEC!!!

Superstar Mentality?? NO WAY!

Is Ztec a team? I say yes. But only on paper. We are called a team, we register as a team and we are known as a team. However, we are not. We cannot and must not segregate ourselves on any basis whatsoever. May it be by skill, talent, or even seniority. What is becoming of Ztec? A group of players only for those who are strong in the game? A group of players who think they are above all others just because they can do fantastic passes or have great shots? No. This is not what Ztec should be.

Ztec should and always be, first and foremost, a TEAM.

No matter how good a player you are, or how much experience you may have, this team will never adopt the superstar mentality. If you feel that you are a superstar, then I boldly would say that this team is NOT for you. We are here to play Floorball. Passing, movement, flow, team play, this is what floorball is all about. The famous saying, "There is no 'I' in team", that saying is superbly accurate and very true. We must learn to play as 1, as a single unit moving together on the court. And not only that, a more important aspect is that we have to be a team off the court.

These days, it is very obvious that seniors are only mixing with seniors and the juniors are doing the same thing. This cannot happen. Seniors should start mixing with the juniors, imparting their wisdom of floorball to them, allowing the juniors to learn. How are we to grow if this is not happening? For those of you who read this and know if this applies to you, I do hope that you would take the initiative to correct yourselves.

We are to be a team. ONE TEAM, ONE PASSION. That is our motto. Unfortunately, we are hardly following what our motto says. Yes, we want to win, yes we want to perform well and score. But honestly, I would not want to win this way. We, Ztec, are strong. We are without a doubt a strong team. But we are only strong when we play as 1. Imagine, if we do play as a team, as one unit, and we win. Imagine what a glorious win that would be, not just for the one who scored or the line that was playing, but for the whole Ztec team. Think about it. When you play and don the jersey of Ztec, always remember this, the logo on the front is who you are representing. It represents the team, and your teammates, and it is more important than your name on the back. If i had offended anyone by writing this, I am truly sorry. But i believe this had to be said. Let us work together to make this team a great one, and a fun one. Bring the joy back in playing floorball, and playing for Ztec.

What is teamwork?

Teamwork has many important elements:

Cooperation — working together, helping one another

Peaceful communication — talking to one another, getting along

Encouragement — supporting and helping each other to do our best

Respect — respecting people for who they are

Listening — really hearing what others on the team say

Support — helping others when they need it

Vincent Lombardi: Quotes on Teamwork
Teams do not go physically flat, they go mentally stale.

Ralph Waldo Emerson: Quotes on Teamwork
Trust men (women) and they will be true to you; treat them greatly, and they will show themselves great.

We need to trust each other on the team, and get to know them. No more segregation. No more discouraging talk. We are a team. We represent Ztec. We ARE Ztec!

GO ZTEC!! God Bless you all..

Daniel Boey scores late to give The Griffin's first win

Ztec Griffins duo Dominic Ewe and Daniel Boey settled this division 2 game with late second half strikes to give Firebrands second defeat in 2 games.

The match started with both teams attacking from end to end before slowing down. At one point of the game, both teams were hesitant to even take a shot. However it was Firebrands #5 Daniel Tan who drew first blood after beating a shacky Griffins defends to row the ball past #1 Leo Nard who responded with a dive because he was expecting the forward to shoot.

#51 Yuh Ting came the closest in the first half to equalized but saw her effort went wide after a blind pass by a Firebrand defender into the middle of his penalty box. #12 Gim Hong and #69 Amos saw plenty of chances to grab the equalizer but failed to convert.

End of first period, the score was 1-0 to Firebrands.

The 2nd period started with The Griffins pushing up high and attacking from all corners. #18 Dominic Ewe could have scored early in the period but miss the ball during an open goal situation. However, a pass later on from #23 Brandon was neatly put into the back of the goal by the 15 year old forward.

The provider, #23 Brandon himself saw his superb free hit taken in his own half which entered the goal ruled out by the referees because the game has not been resumed due to a bench penalty.

Towards the end of the period, when everybody was thinking this game is going to settle for a draw, #30 Daniel Boey met #69 Amos Lim's pass and calmly slap the ball into the goal. The atmosphere in the stadium totally changed!

With few minutes more left, the intensity of the game rises up with both teams attacking. Firebrands could have equalized but saw their shot by #5 saved by Griffins very own captain #1 Leo Nard.

The final score was 2-1 to The Griffins. The Griffins will next play Frontliners 300 on the 17th Feb at Dalat Gym (7.45pm)

Firebrands vs Ztec Griffins

Firebrands 1 - 2 Ztec Griffins

The Griffins found themselves by a goal down at half time before goals from #18 Dominic assisted by #23 Brandon and another goal at the death of the game by #30 Daniel Boey assisted by#69 Amos Lim sealed all 2 points for the Griffins.

Ztec vs Ztec?

A tremendous effort by both teams, Phoenix and Griffins. All players gave full effort and played their hearts out. Unfortunately, Griffins being the underdogs, Phoenix bagged it with the score line of 0-3.

However, everyone was in utter shock and amusement, as their predictions for the final score of the match was not as expected. Griffins fought tooth and nail and did their best to keep Phoenix at bay by defending as much as possible, but Phoenix, being the stronger and more experience team finally broke through their defense. The 1st goal scored by Adrian came as a surprise to everyone. That gave Phoenix the reason to celebrate and to a certain extend, pulled the mental strength of the Griffins down. But that did NOT stop the Griffins, it made them play even harder, making both coaches (Jo-Wyee and Oliver) proud. Thus ended the 1st half of the match.

The coaches gave words of encouragement and enthusiasm to hang in there and not give up. Ter Min (coach of Phoenix) was busy strategizing with his team to the very last minute even when the whistle blew. Griffins and Phoenix, with new found spirit and fire came into the 2nd half with more hunger to put what they had been training into practice. Scrappy defending from Griffins led to a 2nd goal from Adrian Koay, with his fancy dribbling skills and accurate shots, placed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. There was nothing much the goalie could do, being blocked by his own defender ( WE STILL LOVE YOU LEO NARD!!). A badly executed set play by Griffins led to a Phoenix counter attack, causing yet another goal by Samuel which earned the team 3-0 giving Phoenix a comfortable lead. Griffins however, never showed any sign of giving up. Right to the end of the game, the players tried to win back a few goals, unfortunately the whistle for full time sounded ending the match at the score line of 3 to nothing.

Apart from the score, the coaches and even some of the spectators were impressed at the level of intensity and energy both teams exerted.

To the guys of Phoenix, to the guys AND girls of Griffins, You people did extremely well, keep it up. Kudos to the goal scorers and all those who tirelessly gave their all for the good of the team. GO ZTEC PHOENIX AND GRIFFINS!!
