Just Too Tough

Ztec B picking up from last week's big victory fail to make it 2 out of 2 when they were beaten 7-1 by their opponent( this time all boys), Bedok Secondary School visiting from Singapore. Ztec B had the chance to play this team who were on here for a floorball+holiday tour. The match was played in front of an empty stadium in Dalat School. This time, the only familiar face in the team was #16 Moy Wei Sern, who made his return after a long break. #9 Adrian Koay was handed the captains arm band this time round.

This time game was played over 20mins of 3 period with no stop. In the first period it was very tight when Bedok overcome the Ztec Boys just by a goal. The score was 2-1 in the first period with #98 Danial hitting the only goal for the team. But by the end of 2nd period, Bedok hit in another 3 goals followed by 2 goals in the last period. The Ztec B defence was broken way to easy in the 2nd period.

It was quite obvious of the difference of the strength between the 2 teams with Bedok Secondary School having the ball most of the time. Ztec B had many chances in front of goal but failed to convert even during a powerplay.

Ztec would like to thank Bedok Secondary School for playing with us and wish them Great Success in floorball!

Friendly Against Springfield's Junior College

The team that played against Springfield's

Tennis + Ice Hockey + Wrestling = Floorball. This is the best phrase to describe the friendly between Ztec B and Springfield's Junior College. However, there were a couple of good play by both teams. Springfield with almost the whole team playing less than a year and Ztec B with 3 quarter of them less than half a year started the battle at 7.40 pm at Dalat Gymnasium. The game was played with 4period, 15mins each with effective time.

Ztec B had a few familiar faces between them with the likes of Jo Wyee, Oliver, Ken Wye, Joon Han and Yung Ming featuring. In the first period the match was quite close ending 3-1. with #17 Jo Wyee hitting a brace and team captain #6 Oliver scoring his first. Springfield's hit one goal back during a powerplay after a very messy defending by Ztec B in the box.

In the 2nd period, Ztec B hit 6 more goals in as they continue to work on their defence. By the third period it was almost over for them as Ztec B hit in another 8 goals. At the end of 4th period, the score was 20-1 (3-1, 6-0, 8-0, 3-0) to Ztec B. #7 Ken Wye played a superb game netting twice and supplying many assist to the team. #5 Jack scored a superb halfway line goal. Or was it not on purpose? hmmm... Danial hit in 3 goals and in the process made history by becoming the club's youngest goalscorer.

Eventhough the big win, Ztec had fail to achieve its main aim of that day. Nevertheless, Termin was happy that his team emerge victorious. Ztec B has still a long way to go to work on improving their mistakes.

The following was the scorer list:
Period 1
Jo Wyee, Oliver, Jo Wyee

Period 2
Ken Wye, Danial, Wei Jin, Jo Wyee, Jack, Danial

Period 3
Ken Wye, Jo Wyee, Oliver, Jo Wyee(3), Gim, Adrian

Period 4
Calvin(2), Danial

Asia vs Europe

Finally we're back from KL for the much waited friendly match featuring the Malaysian team against the 'Scandinavian All Star Team" It was a much tiring but a great experience in both matches.

On the first day, the Malaysian National team played the Scandinavians with a 'almost full team'. Missing 3 players from Penang who only reached that night. It was quite an easy win for the Scandinavians as they beat Malaysia 9 goals to 3 with a superb 3 period slap shot by their 'star' Finland's Jenni Morottaja. Besides that, our national goalie Linken did superb with many good saves to keep the score lower than a nightmare.

On the second day, the national team was playing with full strength and this time it was a hard fought game with Malaysia roaring in the 3rd period. At the end of the final whistle, it was Scandinavian All Star (9-6) Malaysia. After that, we had a penalty shootout where Malaysia won 3-1. Malaysia's game play surely improved in the 2nd game. The movement was better the passing was better. Yet we never know if we really played better or the Scandinavians were still high on alcohol as they went partied the previous night at 'Luna Bar'.

As for behind the scene actions, it was a great bonding for the national players as half of them stayed together. Many targets must still be achieve before we we consider going to Korea in 2009. One of the target of bonding session is to be able to dare have "Fat-er-Pipe-Shower-Party". Besides that, its all serious and hard work for the Malaysians as they again plan for their 2009 campaign.

As for the 3 Ztec players, they all did pretty well in the friendly with Jo Wyee grabbing a hat-trick in the 2nd match, TerMin getting a double and Oliver making a history for himself. If u want to know what is the history Oliver made, ask anybody who went down to KL. Expecially Jason Selva and Linken. They can tell u best.

Hurray!!

On 7th Oct 2008, a floorball promotion was made on air! It was around 10.50pm. First, a caller called and started introducing a game called 'floorball' which he says is similar to ice hockey and field hockey but its played on floor. So, can u guys imagine?? Floorball was announced on fly.fm.

He also promoted the upcoming friendly match between the Malaysian National Team and the 'Scandinavian All Star' team on the 18th(4pm) and 19th October(9am) at the Sports Plaza, PJ. So you guys out there who are free, do drop by to support your nationalteam and enjoy the action! Dont waste this opportunity as there will be some 'professionals' playing in the 'Scandinavian All Star' team.

National Duty

Ztec is proud to announce that 2 of their players has been selected to the national squad. They are Chiam Ter Min and Oliver Cedric. They represented Malaysia in Perth, Australia in the recent APAC tournament( 25th-29th). Although the team did not perform well, it was a great experienced and exposure for this 2 players.

The team arrived in Perth on a cold 23rd night just at 8celcius. It was a boring 5 hour flight from Changi Aiport.

The teams first training session was at 24th night followed by a light training the following morning. On the 25th, Malaysia played Australie A and Australia Under 19. In the 2nd match, Ztec's Termin manage to grab a goal for the country assisted by his own club mate Oliver.

Day 2, Malaysia played Singapore and on Day 3 the team played Korea.

After 3 intence match day, it was mostly fun and shopping for the boys. Termin and Oliver together with Mervin and Chris (Minden USM) and Kuan Yang and Ming Hwee ( Frontliners) went to most of the places in Perth together. It was a great experienced and a great 9 day stay in Perth.

Zliners-PFA Challenge: Junior and Girls

On the 13th of September, Ztec together with Frontliners organized a tournament with the help of PFA. This tournament was no normal floorball tournament. It was a day specially made and planned for the girls and juniors of Penang.

The Junior tournament started on time at 9am with a total of 8 teams participating. It was a great sight watching all the juniors play their heart out running and chasing for every ball. They were surely much more energetic if you were to compare them to the senior players.

Ztec sent in 1 Junior team consisting of captain Dominic Ewe, Danial, In Hyeok and Alex Park. It was a great blow in the morning as Danial was struck with a fever leaving the team to play with only 3 players. Nevertheless, the team played their heart out beating a team from Contact in their opening game with a score of 2-1. The first was an own goal by a Contact player followed by a goal by the team's own captain, Dominic Ewe. Their second game was tough as they face the Dalat big boys. Ztec fell 5-0 in their second game. In their third game, Ztec just needed a draw to go through to the semis. Nevertheless, the boys played their heart out and beat a team from FGA 2-0 thanks to goals from Dominic and Alex Park.

With that, the team made it into the semis where they played another team from Contact. They lost by a narrow 1-0 to a much skillful Contact side. In the 3rd and 4th placing match, Ztec played another Dalat team eyeing the bronze medal. After 8 mins of intense match up, Dalat boys emerge victorious over team Ztec.

The final results are:

1st place: Dalat
2nd place: Contact
3rd place: Dalat
4th: Ztec

All Star Award
1) Ben from Dalat
2)Jordan from Dalat
3) Ethyan from Contact

In the girls tournament, Ztec didnt not manage the to send in a team because of certain problems. The tournament went smoothly, with all the girls battling it out. The USM girls who were favorites started their campaign thrashing their opponents from FGA 7-0. After 3 hours and 30 mins of the tournament, the tournament came to an end.

The Final Results are:

1st: Contact Sugar
2nd: Innebabes
3rd: Minden (USM)

The All Star Award:
1)Sarah Ng (Minden USM)
2)Sheryn Ng (Contact Sugar)
3)Valerie (Innebabes)
4) Penny (Contact Sugar)

Top Point Leader: Sarah Ng from Minden USM with 11 points
Top Assist: Dawn from Minden USM with 3 assists

Last but not least on behalf of Ztec and Frontliners we would like to thank everybody for making this tournament a success.

Ztec vs Fronliners II: The Floorball Menace

A rainy and wet evening seems to be the worst case scenario that could happen during this day. Well, it happens but that still never stops the friendly match from going on. Everybody came to give their all for this friendly and for most of them, it was their first time stepping into Dalat gymnasium and experiencing the intensity of the game much more better.

First up, it was Ztec's B team against Frontliners Trojans. There were many new faces in these two teams and I have to say that all of them tried their best in this match. I was indeed really proud of Ztec's B team as they performed extremely well in that match. For most of them, it was just their first time playing in a floorball match against other clubs. You can definitely see the tense in their face during the first period of the game. There were many chances for Ztec but first period and second period still ended with no goals from both team.
Third period came and everybody went to the court and gave their all. It was all worth it when the first goal came after a tap in from Kelvin after a assist from Darren. You could just see the excitement in all their faces when he scored the goal. Couldn't have been the "goal of the day" but "celebration of the day" definitely went to him. It was like winning the World Cup Finals for them.
That one goal advantage certainly boost up their confidence level and they played much better after that. Moy Qing Shuin then had a chance to score the second goal for Ztec.
Later on, Samuel Ong secured the win for Ztec when he scored the third goal moments before the match ends. It was a great game for them and the win goes to Ztec with a score of 3-0.

Then, the match between 8cers and Spartans. It could be the preview of next year's Penang Floorball League if 8cers were to be in Division One. As usual, Spartans did their famous yell before the game and that just fired them up. It seems to be "dejavu" once again for 8cers as Spartans drew the first blood halfway in the first period. But that didn't stop Ztec and our unsung hero, Ken Wye scored the equaliser which took the score line to 1-1. Ter Min then took the lead for Ztec after scoring a goal one on one against the kungfu goalie, Sharon. Our captain, Oliver scored another goal for Ztec and that put us in a much safer position with a 2 goals advantage. Spartans came back with another goal but Jun Wooi once again scored from a free hit to maintain the 2 goals advantage. The match was intense as there were many fouls called and even a few 2 minutes penalty were given. Kuan Yang then scored a superb free hit and Leonard couldn't stop it from going into the net. It was then 4-3 and and Nicky scored a goal that took the score line to 5-3. Once again, Kuan Yang did his trademark "death turn" and it went into the back of the net again. It was not the end as Oliver scored his second goal of the night after a shot into the top left corner. 6-4 it was and Ztec were looking to secure the win with a 2 goals advantage. But Spartans still did not gave up and managed to score 2 goals back to back in a minute. That certainly left Ztec devastated but we still never gave up to get an equaliser. Just 2 minutes before the game, Sherwynd was given a 2 minutes penalty for pushing and it was 5 Spartans players against 4 8cers players. It was the worst thing that could have happened but one of Spartans player was also given a 2 minutes penalty for jumping. So with just less than 2 minutes left in the clock, it was 4 on 4 but both team didn't managed to score a winning goal. We drew 6-6 with Spartans and both team deserved it. They played their best and showed true sportsmanship.

A big shout out to our goalie, Leonard for playing both matches as another goalie, Chun Han couldn't make it for the friendly. He did well on that night having to play both matches. Great job! Also, another shout out to the guys and girls from Ztec's B team. They did an awesome job and it was great success for them. For 8cers, all of them did good as well although they didn't managed to win the match. But win or lose or draw, it doesn't matter as both teams gave their best on that night. For the Ztec's B team it was surely a great start and a bright future ahead for them. Kudos to every Ztec players. We would like to thank all the people that make this friendly possible first and for most to Frontliners Floorball Club for the both matches. Also not forgetting the referees, Lin Ken and Uncle Sam. And to our supporters out there, we hope that you enjoy the match. 3 cheers for everybody! Hip hip hurray! We look forward to another friendly in the future against Frontliners and let's hope it won't be a worst case scenario again.

Euro Fever!!

14th of June was a much of an unusual training for Ztec. Not just because we trained in Kompleks Belia on a Saturday morning or the Euro 2008 is going on but it's because we had a mini friendly with Frontliners Floorball Club. With the Euro fever going on, most of our players were eager to hit some balls and it was just the right time as the friendly came unexpected.

Ztec had the privilege to train in the indoor arena while Frontliners were training at the same time just that they had to train under the hot afternoon sun!! So out of good hearts of Ztec board,we invited Frontliners in to play a little friendly match with us.

It was a good experience for both teams as Frontliners had a few new players while Ztec had a couple of players who played their first ever match against another club. The match ran for 30 minutes with a lot of good effort from both teams and it was a great sight to see the new players trying new skills and some chasing the shadows of the more senior player. After 30 minutes, the match ended with a score of 6-1 to the Ztec. Win or lose, it was still a great experience for both club.

5 Hours with a PRO!!

31st of May.Certainly a day to be remembered for the rest of our lives.Three members from Ztec( Moy, Jo-Wyee and Termin) and a few other Penang players had the privilege to meet a real pro *and I meant it*.Jani Kukkola from Finland was on a 4 hour floorball clinic in Penang after having a long week over in Singapore having clinics as well.Jani plays for Finland's top club SSV(this season Finnish League champions) and is a rising talent in the Finnish national side.It was really a great honour to learn from him many basic skills, different kind of shots, free hits and tactical moves.

Though is was short we surely did a lot in that 4 hours. We started of with a passing drill. And then a circuit followed by learning various shots from drags to slaps to backhands and wrists. We were all amazed with his shots!(the best person to ask is Linken cause he had the privilege to get shot by him which left him with bruises everywhere)We then played a game and learned about free hits and power play(Finland's style). It was surely a great honour to be able to play in the same court as him.His spin-overs and ball controls are just superbly good and not to mention,SUPER FAST!We didn't have a chance to even stop him from doing it.And we also found out that the snakes drill that we've always been doing is actually called the dragon drill over in Finland. This is something new!=)

After 4 hours of tiring training, the day was surely not over YET.The final hour was of cause the makan time!We accompanied him to Gurney Drive and all eyes was on him as he tried Penang's delicacies. We also talked about "sup torpedo" during the meal which makes him feel curious.Should probably take him to some mamak and try that if he's back here next time.

It was a great experience for all of us and even for Moy and Jo-Wyee as they were with Lin Ken fetching him around. He is one heck of a story teller! And we managed to dig out his dirty little secret as well. ;) Last but not least we from Ztec would like to thank Dalat Eagles for organizing the clinic and also Jani Kukola for coming down all the way to train us.We wish him all the best in the selection for his national side for the upcoming World Championship tournament.

Youthwave 08: Mixed Feelings for Ztec

19/4. It was the day much waited for most of the floorballers in Penang. Some with pride to fight for, some with rivalry and some to defend what is theirs. The Ztec's however had a whole different objective in mind. For this year, we sent in 4 teams which are 8cers, U-18, Rockets and Ztecaholic. Some of us had floorball tournament experience but most of us were just playing out first floorball tournament.

The Rockets started off their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Innebandy South with forward Chern Harng scoring very late in his debut game to steal the point. The 2nd game was a tough match as they faced an experience Frontliners Renegades. The match ended 3-0 and it was the 1st lost for The Rockets. Their pain were not over when their final fixture were against Torch Bearers . It was a pretty even match as The Rockets gave their all in them. Kelvin manage to grab a goal but it was not enough as their opponents hit in 3 goals to make the final score 3-1. That was the end of the jorney for The Rockets but much more future for the players in the team. They fought their hearts out although it was all their first time playing in a tournament.

On the other hand, The U-18 team which showed so much promises also crashed out early in the tournament. It was tough for them as they were drawn in the 'Group of Death' which consists of Innebandy North, Unihawks Titanium and Frontliners Revolution. On their first game against the defending champions Innebandy North, The U-18 found themself trailing by 3 goals in the first 5 mins. They manage to get back 2 goals through Termin and Jo-Wyee but it was not enough to seal any point. They lost the 1st game 3-2. Their 2nd game were against Unihawks Titanium which was a pretty even match. Both teams fought hard and the final score was 2-1 to The U-18 thanks to goals from Jo-Wyee. With 1 win and 1 lost in hand, their last match was a win-or-die situation against their toughest opponent Frontliners Revolution. After 8 mins of tough fight and much controversial decisions the match ended in favour of The Revolution. 1-0 to them. That showed another exit for The U-18.

The most succesful team were the 8cers. They played well in their opening game as they beat Contact 5-0 thanks to a hat trick from Nicky, a goal from Joon Han and a stunner goal from Sherwynd with his trademark slap shot. They went on to beat Bullets 1-0 thanks to a goal from Joon Han. Aaron almost added to the score but was denied by a late challenge from the opponent. With 2 wins, they already booked a place in a quarter. Their last game of the group were against Salibandy where they lost 3-1 with a consolation goal from Joon Han. Despite their lost, they still book a place in the quarter against Group B winners Torch Bearers. The match started well but Torch Bearers shock The 8cers with an early goal in the 1st minute. They could have scored a few more but thanks to solid defending by 8cers defender Kenny who denied them. Nevertheless the forwards could not find the way to break through their opponents defend and the final score ended 1-0 with the win going to Torch Bearers. That means all the guys team have already been knocked out but all of them can leave with their heads held high because of the effort they put in.

On the girls side, it wasn't an easy day for Ztecaholic as they could not find the net once throughout the whole tournament. Their best effort were against G12 Edna Modes where they hold them to a 0-0 draw. The best thing about this team was their never say die attitude and their teamwork. They were awesome as they helped each other out and encouraged each other throughout their whole campaign. Despite that, their journey ended early but all of them showed much promise in the future.

With all the upsets and tears on that day, there was one thing that brought joy to Team Ztec. Their team captain which wears the #20 jersey, Oliver who was allowed to return to his church for this tournement played at his best there and his team Torch Bearers came up top and won the tournament. The whole Ztec Team would like to congratulate you and your team on this win in this tournament.
Another player which was allowed to return to his church was
#7, Ken Wye who did very good as well. He turned up to be the hero and scored many goals for his team, 412 Unlimited. We would also like to congratulate him for his play during the tournament.

It was certainly a great experience for every Ztec players which was involved in this tournament. Some of them had been in the court for many years and some was just playing in there for the first time. Nevertheless, both old and new players did very well and I'm proud of everybody. Kudos to the guys and girls!=)

* We would like to thank Innebandy! Co for loaning 3 of their female players to us for this tournament..

Facing The Hawks!

Post-Penang League. After 2 weeks without floorball action,we were back again this time to face the Minden Unihawks from Division One in a friendly match. It was a beginning for the Unihawks as they played with their alumni team under their new coach,Edward. On the other side of the court, there were many debuts for a few of our Ztec juniors as they played their first floorball match ever. Both teams with lots to look ahead in the future.Since it was a 4 on 4 match,we decided to play in our upcoming Youthwave tournament lines. It was just the right time to play a match before the tournament and to give a few of our juniors an opportunity to experience the tense and pace of the game.

The pace of the game was definitely faster as we played in a much smaller court compared to the one in Dalat.Nevertheless, both teams played well in that match and final score 7-5 to Ztec.I would like to thank Unihawks for the good game and we certainly look forward to take it to the court once again in the future. All the best to Unihawks in the upcoming tournament! For Ztec, good job to everybody although there were still mistakes but we learn from mistakes and we will improve in it!=)
