Ztec Interview : Brandon #23
1. What winning the PFL Div 1 2010 meant to you.
It means a lot to me. Because i have never won something so big in my life. Winning the biggest floorball tournament in Penang is really something to be proud about. All those days training and practicing finally paid off and it was worth it.
2. The feeling of winning your first gold medal with Ztec.
It feels great, I’ve never won a gold medal in anything before. Winning it with ZTEC makes it a whole lot better. Looking forward to winning more gold medals with ZTEC. Whooshh!!
3. What do you think of Ztec Phoenix.
Ztec phoenix is the most fun team anybody could ever ask for. Its like were connected as a team on court, knowing what each of us are going to do on court really is an advantage. Off the court were like one big family. Lots of bonding! Royal Flush ;)
4. Your most memorable moment in the league.
I will have to agree with my fellow teammate Adrian. It was the nail biting match Phoenix vs Innebandy. Anybody could have gone and won it. I was praying and hoping that somebody would equalise when the scoreline was 4-5. Then along came Jo-wyee who scored the equaliser. Phew, what a relief..by far the most memorable part in the whole league.
5. What number you wear and what it means to you.
I wear number 23. The number 23 represents my favourite basketball player Michael Jordan. Yes, he doesnt have anything to do with floorball but, I’ve always admired him since i was young. He is a legend and a true sports icon. His skill and finesse is truly mesmerizing, i hope i can do the same on the floorball court.

Ztec Interview: Adrian Koay #9
What winning the PFL Div 1 2010 meant to you...
It means a lot to me and for the whole team too, I’m sure. It’s a pleasure and reward to us after a whole year of hard work and commitment.
The feeling of winning your first Div 1 gold medal with Ztec...
Hahaha! It feels good and WOW!! I’m happy and glad! Definitely, it feels a lot better than winning Div 2 last year as there are much stronger, more experienced and competitive teams in Div 1. Whoosh!
Ztec Phoenix...
Ztec Phoenix! Hmmmm... It feels SPECIAL. To play with Phoenix last year in Div2 and again this year in Div1 is just amazing! Go Phoenix!
Your most memorable moment in the league...
Hm... When Jo equalised to 5-5 during the game against Innebandy!Co.. My legs were tired, the time is running out and the game was getting so tensed! It’s a huge relieve. Inne is a very strong team!
What number u wear and what it means to you...
Hahaha! No.9 inspired by Berbatov from United! I just love the way he plays. Many call him lazy but when he touches the ball , its magic! How I wish i could be like him! Except being called the lazy partThursday, August 26, 2010
Ztec Interview: Termin #39
What winning the PFL Div 1 2010 meant to you...
It is a very great feeling for me as a captain and the coach of the team. We worked very hard right till the last game and of the league and you must give credit to this team. I think they were well rewarded with this trophy. It means a lot to me as this year’s league was much tougher than last year.
Of being written off before the league began...
I think many people predicted that this year’s league trophy will be Innebandy! Co’s because of the strength and depth of their team. We were surely getting a lot of ‘feedbacks’ and ‘talks’ around saying that we have no match against them and we will be getting thrash by them so I think this partly gave us motivation to fight harder and train even harder.
Best player in the league...
Without a doubt is Jun Wooi from Ztec Phoenix. Being a more experience and tougher player this year he surely defended very well at the back as well as very efficient in building up the attack and supplying the balls to the forwards. He was also one of the few players in the league who gave 110% in every game. He truly deserve the all star award.
Ztec Phoenix...
This team is maturing at a very fast pace. If u look back at the team I think many have forgotten that 7 out of 13 players played in Div 2 floorball last year. That is more than half of the team. I would say our strength is the attacking line so we really focus on the attacking side of the game which made us concede quite a large number of goals. If u look at the age of this team I think there is much to come from them.
Ztec8cers...
‘WOW’. The first word that came to my mind when thinking of this team. These guys surprised many in the league. Many sees this team as the weakest team in the league but they proved their doubter wrong by a very good start in the league. Although without any national players I think this team fought very bravely and always fought right to the final whistle.
The gap left by Jo-Wyee and Oliver...
Two very important forwards left us for studies which will surely affect the team’s attacking game. This 2 players have a very high influence on the younger players. With the departure of this 2 players it will surely slow down Ztec’s attacking game. However if u look to the bright side, with the departure of these players, the younger players can step up to fight for their spot in the first team which will give a good competition inside the club.
Jersey number (39)...
This number(39) is the date where my grandfather passed away. The 30th Sept .
Most memorable moment in the league...
Final whistle of the Ztec Phoenix vs Innebandy! Co match. Becuase i knew we would have a good chance to win the league with that result.
Where will Ztec go from here...
We will work harder to improve ourselves as a team and focus on the defensive side of the game which is our main weakness. We will surely come back stronger next year with the young player emerging and some of the older players coming back to play for Ztec.

Sharing The Glory : Phoenix VS Innebandy Co!
Even the warm up felt intense as players were nervous and excited to be playing the biggest game this year. After warming up, we huddled up and our coaches gave us some motivation and inspirational talk. The moment we've all been waiting for, the whistle blew and the game began. Some people might have predicted that the game would have been very slow and safe because 1st place was on the line. But, both teams started fast and furious. Going head to head for every ball, giving 100%. It was Innebandy who broke the deadlock via Nicholes Ong. Ztec was a bit shakened up by the early lead. But Ztec stood strong with heads held high and pressed on. Moments later got the equaliser from our very own Jo-Wyee who tapped in a rebound. Few minutes later, with the blistering speed of our very own ''nigga'' (Drew Steiert) he shrugged off the inne defender and sped away squaring in the ball for our legendary Bobby ( Ken Wye) who tapped home a simple goal. Ztec ended the 1st period leading by 2-1.
Upon resting and rejuvenating, our coaches layed out some strategies and some words of wisdom before the 2nd period began. The 2nd period began with Ztec scoring an early goal, another carbon copy of the 2nd goal by Drew and Ken Wye. Later into the game, Inne made a comeback by some defending errors from Ztec, equalising the game to 3-3 from a brace by Bryan Looi. Both teams pressed on, but there were no further goals in the 2nd period. Both teams switched sides and had a team talk respectively. Fatigue started to settle in and so did disappointment upon not playing as well as the 1st period. The coaches tried to get the team fired up by telling the team that the 3rd period was what meant the most, that it was now or never.
The refs blew their whistles signalling for the 3rd period to begin. Both teams were playing equally well, but it was Innebandy's main player Deswyn Wan who scored a superb goal straight into the top corner. Ztec was further frustrated, but we didn't give in and kept playing hard. We answered back by a goal from Jo-Wyee yet again, scoring his second of the match. But, there was still time on the clock and yet again Innebandy replied with ANOTHER goal coming by Jason assisted by Sam. The crowd was getting louder and louder, cheering their hearts out. Our main cheerleader John and Joon Han from 8cers were cheering their loudest and lost their voices (thank you guys). Ztec gave their all and fought for the equaliser , finally a break through. Who else but Jo-Wyee scored the equalising goal and the goal that tied the game up at 5-5. That's how the game ended with both teams sharing the points.
This was definitely a nail biting match and a game to remember. Ztec Phoenix fought a good fight and never gave up taking one step closer to achieving the gold medal. A special shout-out to our very own Loh Jo-Wyee, thank you for being a great coach, friend and brother to all of us, we really appreciate all you have done for us. We hope you have a safe journey to the US and all the best. Make sure you train with Jerm and come back for next years Division 1. That means you too Jerm!! Till the next match..1..2..Whooshh!! 1..2..Jo-Wyee!!
A quote from Marianne Williamson: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.' We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
WE ARE ZTEC !!

Ztec8cers: Every Single Second Counts
Going on against Minden Unihawks was surely a very even and tough match for the 8cers. With both team having speedy players, it was all up to the more experience players to make the difference. Talking about experience, Unihawks surely have the upper hand with a few national and state players in the team.
The game started off with 8cers pushing for the early goal and was rewarded with Samuel Ong grabbing the 1st goal. After that moment of joy the game went pretty slow with both goalkeepers having not much to do. However, Minden Unihawks did equalized right before the break making the scoreline 1-1.
2nd period saw Minden Unihawks scoring 1 goal through a penalty before Allen Goh of Ztec hit 1 back for 8cers. However, it was Unihawks who had the better of the 2nd period scoring to end the period 3-2 in favour of Unihawks.
3nd period saw John Chia Shen scoring from half way line due to some goalkeeping error. With the game at 3-3 both teams were eager to score to next goal. However it was Minden who did the scoring. Not one, not two but 3 goals. In a blink of an eye, Minden were leading by 6-3. 8cers called for a time out and after words of encouragement and a change of strategy the catching up began.
Andy Goh scored 2 goals before captain Samuel hit the equalizer with a nice team play after receiving the final pass from Norman. With confidence rising, 8cers was desperate for the win. Attacks after attacks, Unihawks manage to hold a strong defending wall. With 4 seconds left on the clock, John Chia Shen intercepted a pass, dribble a player a calmly slotted in the winning goal with 1 second left to play. It all happened just like in those sports movies we watched.
An important lesson learn by both teams and surely everyone in floorball. Do not give up until the last second for every second in floorball counts! Next up, how will 8cers deal against the mighty Ztec Phoenix?
Ztec8cers: Holding the Mighty Spartans
Going out against the runners up of PFL 2009 Div 1( Frontliners Spartans) wasn't an easy game and surely not a start Ztec8cers wanted. However the young team was truely excited and gave their best throughout the match. For those of you who didnt watch the game, this was a little bit like the 2005 Football European Championship Final(AC Milan vs Liverpool).
8cers started of the game on a high with John Chia Shen netting the first goal giving a shock to almost everyone in the stadium. However it didnt took long for Spartans to take the lead after 2 quick goals to end the first period 2-1.
2nd period saw Frontliners grabbing 1 goal before Tashveen capitalised over a Spartan mistake before Andy Goh equalised for the 8cers. 3-3 the score after 2 period.
3rd period saw Frontliners went ahead 3 goals in the first 10 minutes. With the score at 6-3 and with 10 minutes left, the 8cers coach called for a time out and gave his team a talk to boost their morale and with a few new strategies the game resume. Many didnt know or predicted the next 10 minutes will be like the 2nd half of the 2005 Football European Championship Final.
In quick succession, Samuel the captain netted his first goal before Andy Goh calmly slotted a penatly after a lying play by a Spartan's player. With barely 1 minute left on the clock, John Chia Shen broke Spartans heart by equalizing to bring the score to 6-6.
At final whistle, this draw proved more than just a single point for Ztec. For 8cers it was a point to prove to Penang that they were not there just to make the numbers. With high morale they look forward for their next match against the Unihawks.

Over the Anthill..... Once Again..
The game started with Ztec going out with all guns blazing but it took our opponents some time to get settled into the match. Ztec handed them 6 goals in the first period which really boosted the morale of team Ztec. We were on fire and kept on fanning the flame. By pushing ourselves, Ztec kicked the habit of the usual weakness of the team whereby we would tend to start slow and work our way up. This was different. We had a point to prove. From the moment we took our first step onto the court, till the last person stepped out, we were bringing our game, showing the people what Ztec is about, we were playing with all heart, and yes.... We were PLAYING FLOORBALL!
The second half looked bright for Contact as they weren't about to roll over and play dead. They brought a force that made Ztec push ourselves even more. Edward, captain of Contact scored a well taken goal which gave Contact a lil ray of sunshine and definitely something to shout about. But ZTEC responded by bagging another 3 goals, ending the 2nd period 3 goals to 1.The half time whistle sounded and it was time for a well deserved rest for both sides.
The referees blew their whistles and signaled for the game to start. Contact grew in confidence as they pressured ZTEC and chased for every ball. Unfortunately for ZTEC Edward and Penny scored 2 good goals, and they were leading for the start of the 3rd period. Ztec's coach called for a time out to give us a ''talk'', the talk that changed everything in the hearts and minds of the players. Ztec went back in scoring 6 goals ending the game with a bang, starting strong and finishing strong as well. The glorious thing about this match is that whenever the opposition scores, ZTEC with heads held high responded with positivity and scoring atleast two goals in return. The emphasis on this sentence is not about the goal scoring, but the emphasis is that ZTEC kept their heads held high. We did not allow ourselves to be pushed around, intimidated or even mocked. Instead, we strive to better ourselves. On the scoreboard, that is where we create our voice. On the court, that is where we make our stand.
Till the next game..1..2...Whooshh!!!

A Sweet Comeback : ZTEC PHOENIX VS SPARTANS
The anticipated day had arrived, ZTEC's first match in division 1 of the PFL has begun, and no way will ZTEC succumb to fear or intimidation, Why? Because this is what we have been training for, all year long. Last year, ZTEC won the cup. We emerged as champions and gold medalist in division 1 2009.....and guess what? We intend to do it again.
Playing our first match against SPARTANS, ZTEC proved to be a team within a team, playing with all heart and soul, giving everything we have we did not allow jeering or negative talk against the team to bring us down instead it pushed us further and pushed us harder. We had a point to prove, a point to be made known to all who were watching, to other teams that ZTEC still has what it takes. And we are not to be pushed around. We have prove ourselves time and time again, that we are a force to be reckoned with. We proved it once again when we played SPARTANS. SPARTANS gave everything they had, they played with spirit and we truly respect them for that. How did we show respect to spartans? We never slowed our game down, we did not take pity on them, instead we respected them as floorball players and played them as we will play every other team. ZTEC would like to congratulate SPARTANS for putting up a hell of a fight. We would like to thank all players in ZTEC for playing their best, without each one of you there would be no chemistry, there would be no flow. We would also like to thank the goalscorers, Adrian, Termin, Jo-Wyee, Oliver, and to Kuan Yang for SPARTANS on scoring two good goals. To those who came to support ZTEC, we owe you much gratitude for bringing the spirit of ZTEC up and making it known and alive. To those who support us, we consider you family and we truly appreciate your effort and time and above all we appreciate your thunderous cheers.
ZTEC is united, in more ways than one. There can be back talk, there can be gossips there may even be frustration at times. But that will not stray us from being the team that we are. People always question what ZTEC means. But thanks to our coach (Jo-Wyee) ZTEC finally has a meaning and that is....

My Teammate Interview : Ter Min
Name: Chiam Ter Min
Position: Right Forward
Age: 20
Most Hardworking Player
I would say the most hardworking player will be Adrian. Always punctual for training and always giving a 100% in drills or game. No surprise he improve so fast.
Fastest Player
Fastest player without the ball should be Drew or Tashwin but with the ball will be between Oliver or Jo-Wyee. With the ball Oliver and Jo-Wyee are very fast.. Like car.
Nicest Car
Surely got to be Ken Wye. His new Sports Mazda.
Club Joker
It surely has to be Drew. Always doing funny things always making his team mates happy and most of the time you will always see him with a smile.
Toughest Player
Adrian Koay. He always goes in for every challenge 100% and its very hard to knock him off the ball.
Player who takes the longest time in shower after training
Surely has to be Jack... One of the first player to go in for the shower and the last to come out. Ken Wye also takes pretty long.

Labour Day Review ZTEC 1 : Good, But Not Good Enough
Thus the semifinals began. Facing Dalat Portbelly Pirates we showed no mercy beating them 11-0 . However, we gotta admire Dalats never say die mentality. No matter what the scoreline was, Dalat never backed down they kept playing with all hope, all energy and all heart. Congratulations to Dalat, you are winners in our eyes. And now for the finale, if this were to be a culinary show then this would be the Crème de la Crème of floorball matches! If this were a musical theatre production, at this point in time the maestro of the orchestra would be building the music to the peak!! If this were a movie, this would be the part where the final showdown takes place.
Silence on court..the referee's are ready, the players are ready and the whistle sounds.
As the game went on the cheers and jeers of the crowds grew louder, it was a time of mixed emotions. There was pain, there was blood, there was stress, pressure and lots and lots of sweat. Unfortunately, ZTEC found themselves to be a goal down, they did whatever they could, pushed as hard as pushing can go but. But, time did not permit the regaining of that one goal. Therefore, history repeated itself, what do you learn from this? History Bites, Big Time. We may have lost the battle but the war is yet to begin, Penang League Division 1 coming soon. Crushed spirits? Broken heart? I say NAY!!! Down and depressed? No way!! For we are ZTEC, Fire comes out from our hearts and lightning bolts from our feet, as we run past an shoot as a team, we play for one team, with the same passion. We play for ZTEC.
Let me hear it again!! Let the whoosh sound on high!!! 1...2...Whoosh!!ZTEC 1

Review of Labour Day Tournament ZTEC 2 : The Young & The Hopeful
ZTEC 2 played a number of matches, although they did not emerge victorious in every match, they are now examples even to the seniors. The one match that stood out from the whole tournament, was the match between ZTEC 2 vs NTU HURRICANES ( Singapore ) Ztec 2 down with only 5 players and one goalie, everyone was doubtful of ZTEC 2. Majority of the people assumed that it was going to be a blow out. That is when the ZTEC spirit came in, the juniors rose to the occasion, putting to shame many seniors in the floorball community in penang. It was then that many were proven wrong. NTU with experienced and national capped players were dumbfounded when they could not penetrate the defense, to get the ball in to the net. ZTEC 2 comprised of junior players with experience as short as only 5 months compaired to NTU, were only considered toddlers in floorball. There were many close calls, but ZTEC 2 tirelessly and amazingly held them back by chasing every ball and playing tightly as a team. Unfortunately, a goal was scored. Controversial but nonetheless a goal. ZTEC 2 kept their heads held high and managed to equalise from our very own young gun John Chia. Bringing the match neck and neck once again.
The final whistle sounds...
The crowd went wild with cheers of excitement and disbelief. It was then that the penalty shoot-outs began. NTU had the upper hand of having a goalie with experience and so to were their players who actually had trained to take penalties, but kudos to Suku AKA Chocolate for stepping up his game managing to save 1 shot out of 3 which gave hope to ZTEC 2 and everyone around them. Unfortunately, experience took over, Hurricanes final score was 2 goals to 1. But a job well done to captain of ZTEC 2 Kok Hui, who managed to salvage a goal during the shoot-outs.
ZTEC 2, in 2 days, when from zero's to heroes, frustrating opponents, scoring goals and having played as a TEAM, proving to the people out there that team work is as important as individual skill. They made history by playing against better and more experienced teams and not succumbing to the pressures and intimidation of more senior players. They stood their grounds, they played their game and they did it to the best of their abilities.
To, Kok Hui, Tashveen, Rishi, Syaza, John , Samuel, Teik Hong, Yong Ern, Gim Hoong and Suku AKA Chocolate ;). You people were awesome, keep ur heads up and keep the fire burning. 1..2..Whoosh!
