Ztec8cers: Every Single Second Counts

In floorball, every single second can make a huge difference. In this game 1 single second gave a team all 2 points.

Going on against Minden Unihawks was surely a very even and tough match for the 8cers. With both team having speedy players, it was all up to the more experience players to make the difference. Talking about experience, Unihawks surely have the upper hand with a few national and state players in the team.

The game started off with 8cers pushing for the early goal and was rewarded with Samuel Ong grabbing the 1st goal. After that moment of joy the game went pretty slow with both goalkeepers having not much to do. However, Minden Unihawks did equalized right before the break making the scoreline 1-1.

2nd period saw Minden Unihawks scoring 1 goal through a penalty before Allen Goh of Ztec hit 1 back for 8cers. However, it was Unihawks who had the better of the 2nd period scoring to end the period 3-2 in favour of Unihawks.

3nd period saw John Chia Shen scoring from half way line due to some goalkeeping error. With the game at 3-3 both teams were eager to score to next goal. However it was Minden who did the scoring. Not one, not two but 3 goals. In a blink of an eye, Minden were leading by 6-3. 8cers called for a time out and after words of encouragement and a change of strategy the catching up began.

Andy Goh scored 2 goals before captain Samuel hit the equalizer with a nice team play after receiving the final pass from Norman. With confidence rising, 8cers was desperate for the win. Attacks after attacks, Unihawks manage to hold a strong defending wall. With 4 seconds left on the clock, John Chia Shen intercepted a pass, dribble a player a calmly slotted in the winning goal with 1 second left to play. It all happened just like in those sports movies we watched.

An important lesson learn by both teams and surely everyone in floorball. Do not give up until the last second for every second in floorball counts! Next up, how will 8cers deal against the mighty Ztec Phoenix?

Ztec8cers: Holding the Mighty Spartans

Ztec8cers whom were the champions of the 2009 Penang Division 1 was this year made up mainly new players. Being the 2nd team of Ztec Floorball Club, this team consists of players from the 2009 Division 2 team as well as some new young blood.

Going out against the runners up of PFL 2009 Div 1( Frontliners Spartans) wasn't an easy game and surely not a start Ztec8cers wanted. However the young team was truely excited and gave their best throughout the match. For those of you who didnt watch the game, this was a little bit like the 2005 Football European Championship Final(AC Milan vs Liverpool).

8cers started of the game on a high with John Chia Shen netting the first goal giving a shock to almost everyone in the stadium. However it didnt took long for Spartans to take the lead after 2 quick goals to end the first period 2-1.

2nd period saw Frontliners grabbing 1 goal before Tashveen capitalised over a Spartan mistake before Andy Goh equalised for the 8cers. 3-3 the score after 2 period.

3rd period saw Frontliners went ahead 3 goals in the first 10 minutes. With the score at 6-3 and with 10 minutes left, the 8cers coach called for a time out and gave his team a talk to boost their morale and with a few new strategies the game resume. Many didnt know or predicted the next 10 minutes will be like the 2nd half of the 2005 Football European Championship Final.

In quick succession, Samuel the captain netted his first goal before Andy Goh calmly slotted a penatly after a lying play by a Spartan's player. With barely 1 minute left on the clock, John Chia Shen broke Spartans heart by equalizing to bring the score to 6-6.

At final whistle, this draw proved more than just a single point for Ztec. For 8cers it was a point to prove to Penang that they were not there just to make the numbers. With high morale they look forward for their next match against the Unihawks.

Over the Anthill..... Once Again..

Ztec did it again, coming out with a comfortable victory against Contact Fireants with a score of 15-3. Although one might think that this was just another game, however this match was as important as any other match Ztec has played. Why? Because one slip-up might cost us the gold medal.

The game started with Ztec going out with all guns blazing but it took our opponents some time to get settled into the match. Ztec handed them 6 goals in the first period which really boosted the morale of team Ztec. We were on fire and kept on fanning the flame. By pushing ourselves, Ztec kicked the habit of the usual weakness of the team whereby we would tend to start slow and work our way up. This was different. We had a point to prove. From the moment we took our first step onto the court, till the last person stepped out, we were bringing our game, showing the people what Ztec is about, we were playing with all heart, and yes.... We were PLAYING FLOORBALL!

The second half looked bright for Contact as they weren't about to roll over and play dead. They brought a force that made Ztec push ourselves even more. Edward, captain of Contact scored a well taken goal which gave Contact a lil ray of sunshine and definitely something to shout about. But ZTEC responded by bagging another 3 goals, ending the 2nd period 3 goals to 1.The half time whistle sounded and it was time for a well deserved rest for both sides.

The referees blew their whistles and signaled for the game to start. Contact grew in confidence as they pressured ZTEC and chased for every ball. Unfortunately for ZTEC Edward and Penny scored 2 good goals, and they were leading for the start of the 3rd period. Ztec's coach called for a time out to give us a ''talk'', the talk that changed everything in the hearts and minds of the players. Ztec went back in scoring 6 goals ending the game with a bang, starting strong and finishing strong as well. The glorious thing about this match is that whenever the opposition scores, ZTEC with heads held high responded with positivity and scoring atleast two goals in return. The emphasis on this sentence is not about the goal scoring, but the emphasis is that ZTEC kept their heads held high. We did not allow ourselves to be pushed around, intimidated or even mocked. Instead, we strive to better ourselves. On the scoreboard, that is where we create our voice. On the court, that is where we make our stand.

Till the next game..1..2...Whooshh!!!

A Sweet Comeback : ZTEC PHOENIX VS SPARTANS

The anticipated day had arrived, ZTEC's first match in division 1 of the PFL has begun, and no way will ZTEC succumb to fear or intimidation, Why? Because this is what we have been training for, all year long. Last year, ZTEC won the cup. We emerged as champions and gold medalist in division 1 2009.....and guess what? We intend to do it again.

Playing our first match against SPARTANS, ZTEC proved to be a team within a team, playing with all heart and soul, giving everything we have we did not allow jeering or negative talk against the team to bring us down instead it pushed us further and pushed us harder. We had a point to prove, a point to be made known to all who were watching, to other teams that ZTEC still has what it takes. And we are not to be pushed around. We have prove ourselves time and time again, that we are a force to be reckoned with. We proved it once again when we played SPARTANS. SPARTANS gave everything they had, they played with spirit and we truly respect them for that. How did we show respect to spartans? We never slowed our game down, we did not take pity on them, instead we respected them as floorball players and played them as we will play every other team. ZTEC would like to congratulate SPARTANS for putting up a hell of a fight. We would like to thank all players in ZTEC for playing their best, without each one of you there would be no chemistry, there would be no flow. We would also like to thank the goalscorers, Adrian, Termin, Jo-Wyee, Oliver, and to Kuan Yang for SPARTANS on scoring two good goals. To those who came to support ZTEC, we owe you much gratitude for bringing the spirit of ZTEC up and making it known and alive. To those who support us, we consider you family and we truly appreciate your effort and time and above all we appreciate your thunderous cheers.

ZTEC is united, in more ways than one. There can be back talk, there can be gossips there may even be frustration at times. But that will not stray us from being the team that we are. People always question what ZTEC means. But thanks to our coach (Jo-Wyee) ZTEC finally has a meaning and that is....

Z-Zestful
T-Talented
E-Enhanced
C-Champions

All of ZTEC hear this as we say to you, you ARE Zestful, you ARE talented and you truly ARE enhanced champions !! 1...2...Whooshh!!
